Autism Assessment Dallas

What is an Assessment?

Our assessments (also referred to as psychological testing or psychoeducational evaluations) are meant to answer parent questions, address parent concerns, and identify a child's strengths and weaknesses.

Assessments are comprised of three sessions:

  • The first 1.5-hour initial interview allows the doctor to learn as much about your child as possible, from those who know him/her best.

  • Secondly, your child will come in for diagnostic testing, which usually takes between 4-6 hours, with as many breaks as your child needs.

  • The last session is a 1.5 hour feedback session where the clinician will review all scores, discuss diagnosis (if applicable), and review recommendations developed specifically to address your child’s needs.

  • These 3 sessions are typically all scheduled within two weeks of each other so you are not waiting between appointments to receive feedback.

Receive an extensive report detailing the assessment scores and interpretation, diagnosis (if applicable), and list of recommendations.

Autism Assessments

Evaluations for Autism (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder affects social communication and interaction alongside restricted and repetitive behaviors. The range of symptoms varies widely, often complicating social interactions and communication. Autism is recognizable in early childhood, and our experts can diagnosis as young as 16 months of age.

Our evaluations incorporate specialized measures to assess social and communication abilities. Our trained clinicians use diagnostic tools like the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2), play-based, and developmental assessments. Post-assessment, clinicians discuss the outcomes and provide tailored recommendations. A detailed report and resources such as speech and occupational therapy, behavioral interventions, and educational guidance are offered after the consultation.

Assessments for ADHD

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Evaluations

Achieving an accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and aiding developmental progression. Behaviors often associated with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) might actually stem from emotional disturbances or learning disabilities, necessitating a thorough assessment.

Our ADHD diagnostic process is extensive to confirm whether ADHD accurately describes the individual’s challenges.

The evaluation typically involves:

  • An initial consultation and clinical interview with the child’s parents/guardians to understand developmental history, primary concerns, and individual strengths.

  • An extensive array of psychological tests.

  • Behavioral assessment forms to caregivers and educators, and the child when age-appropriate.

  • A detailed feedback session is held with caregivers to discuss the results, followed by recommendations and potential referrals. A comprehensive report summarizing the findings is provided within two weeks of the evaluation.

ADHD affects individuals' focus, impulse control, and activity levels. It manifests as a consistent pattern of difficulty in following instructions, staying organized, and controlling impulsive actions across multiple settings, which can disrupt academic performance and social interactions.

Psychoeducational Evaluation

Identifying Learning & Emotional Challenges

Our evaluations aim to determine the root cause of academic struggles, whether they be attentional, emotional, or learning-based. Our assessments cover a broad spectrum of potential issues, from dyslexia and dyscalculia to attention disorders and emotional difficulties.

Specific attention is given to:

  • Dyslexia, characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, and by poor spelling abilities.

  • Dyscalculia, focusing on challenges with math concepts and calculations.

  • Dysgraphia, affecting the ability to write coherently, often due to motor dysfunction or difficulty organizing thoughts on paper.

Over half of students with learning disabilities also exhibit cooccurring emotional or behavioral challenges, necessitating a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and intervention.

Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs)

We offer comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations as a part of the Independent Educational Evaluation process. If parents disagree with the results of an evaluation conducted by a public school system, they have the right to request an evaluation by a qualified provider who is not employed by the district.

If approved, the cost of the evaluation is covered by the school district. The purpose of the IEE is to determine the student’s strengths and weaknesses for intervention and educational programming purposes. IEEs are requested through the Special Education department in your child’s school district.
