ADHD Evaluations
What is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. ADHD affects individuals' focus, impulse control, and activity levels. It manifests as a consistent pattern of difficulty in following instructions, staying organized, and controlling impulsive actions across multiple settings, which can disrupt academic performance and social interactions. There are three presentations:
-
Inattentive Type: This includes making careless mistakes, difficulty sustaining attention, avoiding tasks requiring sustained mental effort, and problems with organization.
-
Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Symptoms include difficulty remaining seated, excessive talking, fidgeting, and acting without thinking.
-
Combined Type: This most common form in children combines symptoms of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types.
Our Assessments for ADHD
Achieving an accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and aiding developmental progression. Behaviors often associated with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) might actually stem from emotional disturbances or learning disabilities, necessitating a thorough assessment.
Our ADHD diagnostic process is extensive to confirm whether ADHD accurately describes the individual’s challenges.
The evaluation typically involves:
-
An initial consultation and clinical interview with the child’s parents/guardians to understand developmental history, primary concerns, and individual strengths.
-
An extensive array of psychological tests.
-
Behavioral assessment forms to caregivers and educators, and the child when age-appropriate.
-
A detailed feedback session is held with caregivers to discuss the results, followed by recommendations and potential referrals. A comprehensive report summarizing the findings is provided within two weeks of the evaluation.
